Here is the text that I sent Mike Freeman after reading his article on Tiger Woods. I’ve read thousands of article in my day, but never replied. Until today …
Wow Mike … never before have I felt compelled to reply to any story, but you did it with this one (which I guess is what you ultimately wanted). You are incredibly misguided here. Your quote, “Mike Freeman: I’m not asking Woods to force his views on anyone. I’m asking him to just have some. Woods has lived up to his potential as a fabulous athlete but he could do so much more. He has the intelligence, charisma and power to literally change the country. He instead has decide his main mission is to make money. That’s fine. But what’s wrong with doing both?”
I’m sure Woods does have some beliefs, but unlike many people, he decides to keep his beliefs to himself. Asking him to have some publicly … you are in fact asking him to push his beliefs on to others.
You are right about him having the intelligence, charisma, etc. to change the country. If you knew anything about Tiger, you’d know he’s doing that through his foundations. His way. In private. Just because he isn’t on the same train as you doesn’t give you the right to throw him under it. That’s disrespectful to Tiger and your readers. You obviously don’t know your subject matter well enough to judge him. I don’t know you well enough to judge you and your beliefs, but I know enough that I won’t ever read another column by you again.
