Lots to say "Thanks" for

Over at Man of the House (you’re checking that out, right?) we are running a series to say “Thanks Dad” for everything he’s taught us. Well … go check out my piece there about Dad. Hope you like it.

As I write this, I’m doing one of the very things for which my father and I share a great passion. Through his eyes, I grew to love the very same thing, that I hope to one day pass on to my boy … a passion for something so simple, something that neither of us has any control over. It is something that we both obsess over – and more importantly – share with one another. But, I’ll get to all that.

My father – who has no idea this article is even being written – taught me too many things to try to capture in a few hundred words. I know that he’ll see this, and he’ll have two feelings – one will be ‘aw-shucks’ and he’ll deflect a lot of my finer traits to my mother’s doing, and two, will be a sense of pride because he’ll know each of these moments, but this might be the first time he’s seeing that I remember too.

Mustache Update

image

Coming in a little red. (And yeah … the top is coming in gray … I’ve heard that before.) Can’t imagine where I get that?

First … big, big thank you to Mom and Dad for the donation! Really appreciate it. And I may keep this thing after a whole month of growing. :)

Right now, ManoftheHouse.com’s Movember Team has raised $1,736. Not bad for our first week and first go round at this. But we’re trying to get higher and raise awareness for men’s health.

If you can spare a few bucks, please consider supporting a great cause … and a burgeoning mustache.

And finally, because I know the real reason why anyone looks at From the Bench … here’s a really cute picture of the little guy playing at Daycare Family Night. Notice the chocolate covered pretzel tightly squeezed within his grip.

Raising Awareness for Mens' Health

November has temporarily changed names to Movember — and I’m participating. From the Movember website:

Movember is responsible for the sprouting of thousands of Mo’s (Australian slang for moustache, where the movement began) on men’s faces around the world, raising vital awareness and funds for men’s health, specifically for cancer affecting men.

Men who grow moustaches for the month of Movember, called Mo Bros, become walking, talking billboards for the cause, raising awareness by prompting private and public conversation around the often ignored issue of men’s health.

Supported by the women in their lives, Mo Sistas, Movember Mo Bros raise funds by getting friends and family to donate to their Mo-growing efforts. The rules are simple: register online at Movember.com and start the month of Movember clean-shaven, then grow a moustache for 30 days.  Last year, 255,722 men and women across the globe raised $40 million (USD) - all through the power of the Mo.

The money raised as a result of Movember is channeled by our beneficiary partners into a number of world class and innovative research, support, education, and awareness initiatives. Movember funds raised in the US benefit the Prostate Cancer Foundation (www.pcf.org) and LIVESTRONG (www.livestrong.org).

You can help me raise money by pledging your support as I *try* to grow a mustache this month with members of my team from ManoftheHouse.com. You can donate to our team here on my Mospace Page.
